• How to become an effective leader???
Participation in the community is one of the five areas of opportunity offered by JCI. Many of the Junior Chamber members are active in local communities through involvement in community and civic projects. There are many more individuals (including non JCI members) who desire to participate in the development of local community either by taking up a full time employment or through assisting on a voluntary basis.
Acknowledging the fact that there is a difference in the skill set and approach, which is required in the Voluntary sector, JCI Reading is hosting a presentation on Leadership in the Charitable/Non profit Sector.
The purpose of this talk is to recognise the challenges being faced in the Voluntary Sector and how we can deal with them efficiently and effectively.
Our speaker David Wambebe (FRSA) will highlight key tools for Leadership in a Charitable Organisation while sharing some of his experiences of this sector.
About the presenter
David Wambebe is the CEO of Ilderton Foundation (IF) – a social enterprise and a registered charity – which offers courses in Motor Engineering and provides Driving Lessons for young people.
The aim of this charity is to interest disadvantaged young people in training and education and help them gain personal and educational skills which enable them to have a better future and integrate well in society. The charity’s main focus is towards reducing crime in the community, particularly car crime.
The work of Ilderton Foundation has also been celebrated on a famous reality TV programme “The Secret Millionaire”.
David has worked in the voluntary sector for over 21 years. His main interest has always been in youth training and education and his passion has led him to get involved in developing successful youth based projects.
Under David’s leadership, Ilderton Motor Project (a training unit of IF) has grown from a charity with a turnover of £159k to £700k per annum.
David is also on the Board of Trustees for six other charitable organisations serving community in: – Housing – Career Counselling and Employment – Basic skills and training for employment etc
